21 - 23 June 2019 | The Self Compassion Break Retreat at Temenos with Karen Nebe

Updated: Jun 13, 2019

The intimate connection that arises through deep enquiry and truly listening - is only possible if we can open to the vulnerability of our own hearts. Breathing in, contacting the life that is right here, is our first step.

Most of us are able to feel compassion for a close friend who is struggling. What would it be like to receive the same caring attention from yourself? What is required is a shift in attention - recognising that as a human being you are also worthy of compassion.

Many people criticise themselves in the belief that it will help motivate them to achieve their goals. This actually has the opposite effect. Self-criticism activates our threat response which then creates more stress and anxiety and orientates us towards the “negative”. Research has shown that practicing mindful self-compassion decreases stress, anxiety, depression and is essential to cultivating resilience and a more fulfilling life. ME-TIME is not a luxury - it is a necessity.

During this cosy weekend at Temenos Retreat the invitation is to re-connect to self, to community and to nature through Creative Guiding, gentle movement, conversation, reflection and mindful self-compassion exercises . You will leave feeling nurtured and more centred - with practical tools which will enable you to generate more capacity to engage in this ever-changing world.

More about Creative Guiding: In a nurturing environment Karen gently nudges and steers the art making. She draws on inspiration from nature and its elements, stories, poetry and other stimuli. The emphasis is on the experience of creating, developing and reflecting through the artwork and not on the finished product. An invitation to let go of expectations and be curious about whatever emerges.

Feedback from previous participants:

“I came here disconnected, full of stress and pain, and not knowing the right questions, let alone answers. Karen has equipped me with the tools to reflect on my mental and physical wellbeing - and explore a more joyful, playful, creative side to myself that I had lost in my life. Simply observing and listening are already helping me “unthaw” and reconnect with the me I thought I had lost.” - IB

“I found the processes that Karen chose for us to do revealed where I could be more compassionate towards myself. The way she held the space and her vulnerability facilitated me in becoming kinder to myself with each creation, having more fun each time, relaxing more and holding myself with a fuller compassion in the end.” - CL
