26 - 28 June 2020 | The Self Compassion Break Retreat at Temenos with Karen Nebe

Updated: Jun 21, 2020

The Power Of Winter is the power of emphasis: it emphasises the essence of life. Without the external adornment of leaves, flowers, and fruits of the growing season, the plant is just bare essence: a seed, with its potential deep inside, or a tree stripped to its core of trunk, branches, and roots. For us, winter is a time of self-reflection and conserving energy - when we can go inside to that place where we are unadorned essence. Water, the element that corresponds to winter, points us to that dark, quiet pool within ourselves where our essential true nature lives. We can use the energy of winter to more deeply discover the essence of our self.

This is an invitation to come into stillness and do some internal work - to meditate, move gently, declare yourself a learner and immerse yourself in a creative process that will help you gain clarity on what is truly important to you - to re-connect with your true essence.

And most importantly, to do this with self-compassion.

Self-Compassion - fierce, fearless compassion - with courage, curiosity and trust in basic goodness helps us to see possibilities we might not have otherwise imagined or ever thought possible. Research has shown that practicing mindful self-compassion decreases stress, anxiety, depression and is essential to cultivating resilience and a more fulfilling life.

More about Creative Guiding

In a nurturing environment Karen gently nudges and steers the art-making. She draws on inspiration from nature and its elements, stories, poetry and other stimuli. The emphasis is on the experience of creating, developing and reflecting through the artwork and not on the finished product. An invitation to let go of expectations and be curious about whatever emerges.

Feedback From Some Previous Participants

“I really enjoyed the way you arranged the dance between the art and the selfcompassion, how you gently led the processes and were so authentic and vulnerable yourself.” ~ BB

“I loved the way Karen led the entire retreat, she was inclusive, she made sure everyone was following, the way she set out the space was outstanding”. ~ SN

“The art-making processes were extremely helpful in my personal journey. The way in which the activities themselves were thought out created a flow and development process. The

interaction between the group was inspiring and completely pure and beautiful.” ~ ERL

“Your gift is that you make each of us feel safe and you are emotionally intelligent enough to encourage each of us, with our vastly different personalities, to be open to each other.” ~ GW
