Most of us are able to feel compassion for a close friend who is struggling. What would it be like to receive the same caring attention from yourself? What is required is a shift in attention - recognising that as a human being you are also worthy of compassion.
Many people criticise themselves in the belief that it will help motivate them to achieve their goals. This actually has the opposite effect. Self-criticism activates our threat response which then creates more stress and anxiety and orientates us towards the “negative”. Research has shown that practicing mindful self-compassion decreases stress, anxiety, depression and is essential to cultivating resilience and a more fulfilling life. ME-TIME and SELF-CARE is not a luxury - it is a necessity.
After the Poetry Festival in McGregor join us for #TheSelfCompassionBreak weekend at Temenos Retreat . The invitation is to re-connect to self, to community and to nature through Creative Guiding, gentle movement, conversation, reflection and mindful self-compassion exercises . The entire weekend will be inspired by poetry from some of the greats such as Mary Oliver and John O’ Donohue. You will leave feeling nurtured and more centred - with practical tools which will enable you to generate more capacity to engage in this rapidly ever-changing world.
More about Creative Guiding: In a nurturing environment Karen gently nudges and steers the art making. She draws on inspiration from nature and its elements, stories, poetry and other stimuli. The emphasis is on the experience of creating, developing and reflecting through the artwork and not on the finished product. An invitation to let go of expectations and be curious about whatever emerges.
Feedback from previous participants:
“A chance to nourish and nurture your spirit with expert guidance in a beautiful place - truly
transformative.” ~ KT
“The art-making processes were extremely helpful in my personal journey. The way in which the activities themselves were thought out created a flow and development process. The interaction between the group was inspiring and completely pure and beautiful.” ~ ERL
“The retreat definitely enriched my life. Karen has created this safe space where one can be open and honest and vulnerable. Also, being amongst strangers makes it much easier to open up without fear of judgment. We arrived as strangers and left as sisters” ~ LP
